Hello! My name is Meagan Halowaty and I am a Masters of Arts (Recreation Studies) student at the University of Manitoba. In 2008, I obtained my Bachelors of Recreation Management and Community Development from the University of Manitoba, specializing in Sustainable Tourism Development and Geography.
In the Summer of 2008, I travelled to Uganda to complete my fieldwork placement for my undergrad and knew that it would only be a matter of time before my feet were once again travelling upon that beautiful red African soil. While in Uganda, I worked in communities that border parks and protected areas to help develop sustainable tourism initiatives, share knowledge on the importance of conservation, and to help encourage sustainable livelihoods.
A combination of my personal interests and hobbies, combined with my education and experience in Africa, has led me to pursue an opportunity with SWB and the Jesuit Refugee Service in Malawi, as an English Teacher in the Dzaleka Refugee Camp. Wanting to eventually teach within a post-secondary institution, I feel that this placement will be an exciting and rewarding experience for someone as myself who has a passion for both education and international development.
I am excitingly awaiting my departure to Malawi and look forward to this new experience!

Wow Meagan, what an experience this is going to be-am looking forward to following you and your travels. Good luck.
