Hi!

I have chosen the placement with “Students With Out Borders” because after living in Latin America , I have seen the plight that people there have to live through. Having wanted to make some kind of a change after I finished my studies but not sure of where or what to do I volunteered at Oxfam Canada. The people at Oxfam Canada are great. They helped me in determining where and how I wanted to help which led me to want to help children and women in bettering their lives and thus in turn would better the community. The SWB internship as “Assistant to the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives Project Coordinator” will allow me to gain the knowledge to better understand International Development when helping communities and that in turn will give me the first hand experience I desire.

Hi Matthew, I just got accepted for this same placement for winter 2010 and I am currently trying to make my decision about taking it or not (I have another option with another organisation as well). Could you tell me more about the position and how you like it so far?
Thanks and good luck with everything,
Sara
Sara,
I didnt notice the message you left until now. I am sorry for the delay and you probably already took one of the positions you mentioned. This position has been a excellent experience in which I would encourage you to take: I had several oportunities to go out in the field and look at projects that had been completed and in the process of being completed. I also helped out some organizations to write a report to keep FCIL up to date. I would suggest that if there is a particular subject that you like and know alot about then look for projects that are in that area and look and read into those projects. But you also have to be patient for some things and push towards getting what you want out of this internship. You wont regret coming here. If there are any specific questions that you have then go ahead and ask. I will answer them to the best of my ability.I hope this helped in some way either to you Sara or any one else.
