Biography

Hello! I am a 2nd year Master`s student from Royal Roads University studying Human Security and Peacebuilding. I am an “army brat“ and have lived all over Ontario and various places in Canada– although I currently call Victoria, British Columbia home. Most recently I`ve come back to Canada from a month long field work position in Uganda on human trafficking (women and children) and a trip to London England! Ever since I can remember I have been interested in human rights, security and peacebuilding. Volunteering in homeless shelters in Ontario for many years, increased my awareness and desire to learn about other countries worldwide and to explore the challenges and scuesses they face when looking at issues of human security. Nowadays, I am particularily interested in childrens and women`s rights issues including mircofinance, trafficking, child soldiers, education, gender empowerment and development. My reasons for going the childrens rights programme in Botswana, is that I would like to continue to learn more about the rights of children, challenges, as well as avenues to achieve greater human security in the future. During my stay in Bostwana working with Ditshwanelo, I hope to learn about the country itself, culture, the organization, and the issues that face children in the area. While I am also here to complete my internship for the Master`s program, I hope that I am able to learn and apply ideas and practices to other nations in the future. I feel so happy and fortunate to be able to return to Africa. My first experience was exteremly memorable– meeting new people, experiencing new things and I hope that I will be able to do the same in Botswana with SWB and Ditshwanelo!
