Nhu Thanh District in Thanh Hoa,Vietnam!!

Hello everyone,

My name is Fatoumata Dembele, I am a 4th year student at the University of Ottawa in the field of Economics and Public policy with a minor in Business Administration.
I arrived for the first time in Canada on August 2005, in order to pursue my studies at the University of Ottawa. I come from both Senegal and Mali, two countries located in West Africa.
I was born and raised in Dakar, Senegal until the age of 11, then I moved to Rome, Italy were I lived for 6 years. Since I was young, I have had the opportunity to travel throughout the world in more than 8 countries located in Africa, Europe, and America. Living and traveling to different countries have allowed me to broaden my international experience, to be an open-minded person, and to respect differences.
I
am very passionate about International development, and have a strong interest in world issues and learning about other cultures. I am really excited in going for the first time in Asia for an internship .Thus, having the opportunity to go in Vietnam, will be beneficial to me, both in a personal and academic perspective. This will allow me to learn more about Asian culture, to apply my academic knowledge to a practical work environment in a developing country and to contribute in making a difference in the lives of many people facing poverty.

I will be an Administrative and Project Assistant intern in Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam for the summer 2009. I will work with CECI (Centre for International Studies and Cooperation) and CBAET (Community –based Agricultural Extension and Training). My position consists in working on projects to alleviate poverty in rural areas. I have a great interest in working on projects aimed at improving the living conditions of poor people and at promoting peace. I also believe that my theoretical knowledge in Economics and Public policy will be greatly beneficial to the organizations I will be working with.

It is my wish to contribute as much as I can in order to help make a change and get practical experience on the field as part of an intern.During my free times, I do research and learn as much as I can about Vietnamese culture in order to get prepared for this new adventure. I expect to be integrated well in the district of my duty station and I look forward to enjoy my stay in Vietnam.

Thank you,

Fatoumata
