Placement in Malawi, Africa
Posted by Edlynne on January 29th, 2010
My name is Edlynne Venkataya and I currently attend Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, BC), completing a Bachelors of Business Administration degree, concentrating in both Accounting and Finance along with a minor in Mathematics. I have been given the opportunity to be a part of SFU International Coop by participating in my fourth coop term as a Finance Officer in Malawi Africa in January 2010 till May 2010. My placement is with Active Youth in Development (AYIDO) funded through World University Services of Canada (WUSC), which is strictly a volunteer organization. This passionate organization is driven towards strong growth, development and success through AYIDO efforts to help reduce infectious diseases and promote human rights through outreach programs and training in Africa.
My experience in accounting and administrative functions have been greatly influenced by my knowledge and training gained at SFU Business and further completing several Co-op placements at BC Housing, helping low income residents to fund housing arrangements, as an Accounting Clerk and Data Integrity Analysis. My responsibilities, as a Finance Officer in Africa, will be to assist with preparations of project budgets and financial reports, maintain internal control and designing innovative measures to improve identification of potential risk areas.
It will be a great privilege to use my accounting expertise to further contribute to this developing country and due to my enthusiasm to learn, I will be able to expand my knowledge and experience in accounting as well. This experience will also promote personal growth and development as I learn how to adapt to changing environments and different cultures.

Hi Edlynne, it is so nice to hear from you and that you are having a wonderful time and beautiful place which God has created. Follow your many dreams with God being the centre of it all and see how He directs your path and how wonderfully he uses you for His Kingdom. I am blessed to hear of your time and people that you have already met and are having fun….this is all life is about to have fun and yet to touch lives around you.
Mom.
Great to hear all is going well
Have fun and be safe bhati
Extremely proud of how you have responded to Jesus calling to serve Him in this dark & lost world.
Jesus did say, “Go you into ALL the world & preach the gospel. Gospel means good news that Jesus died for sins of men. Your heart has been “ONE” with Jesus & I am lost for words & blessed to know that you have chosen to follow what Jesus did, came to die so that we, sinners will be “ONE” with HIM.
You will bless people wherever you go. My prayer is that God would lead you to other dark, sinful & lost places in this world instead of coming back home. You have specially been designed by God to use all the gifts – heart, attitude, knowledge through education, experience & desire to follow your heart for those who are desperate.
May God richly bless you, keep you in the palms of HIS hands, may HIS light shine upon you & may your countenance be filled daily as you serve Jesus.
Your earthly daddy who loves you & prays for you daily
Hi Edin!!!!
It’s so good to hear you are doing alrite.
I know that your internet is slow there, but if you get this then know that we are all here praying for you and wishing you the best. I love you sooo much.
I think this may help you:
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Love you loads and have an awesome four months!
HEY, ARE YOU YET IN MALAWI, WELCOME and i hope you are going to enjoy every bit of second you gonna stay here
Edlynne, Trust all is well with you. There is nothing better than to be serving God wherever He takes you. It takes courage to do what you are doing but we know that GOD is faithful and is able to do exceedingly above our expectations. Like Mother Teresa said ” we are all pencils in HIS hands” remember that he writes as HE wills. Follow your dreams and make a difference ..one life at a time.
In the difficult and lonely moments, know that God is there for you and that you are loved and are in out thoughts an prayers.
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God ” Psalms 20:7
Stay blessed!!
