Hi! I’m Brianna. I’m a student at the U of G, finishing up my undergrad in English. When I’m done at the University of my time at Guelph and grown immensely as an individual. I grew up in London, Ontario with my parents, brother and dogs. I had a fun childhood participating in various extracurricular activities and surrounded by great friends and family. Prior to attending school in Guelph, I lived with my grandparents in
Trinidad to attended high school. Living in a culture different to the one I was raised in was an amazing experience and has become a place that is so close to me, I now consider it home in many ways. I have also grown up at a camp I work at in summers. Working with children has been so rewarding and energizing. I have learnt to so much from the campers and working environment. I have been very fortunate to have traveled with my family. With each place I visit, I develop a sense of appreciation and wonder for the many cultures, flavours, and people the world has to offer. My family is by far the most important part of my background as I have a very close relationship with them. They encourage and motivate me in usual activities, but especially in programs such as this.         Â

My motivation for participating in this program stems from my participation in a similar program I took part in last summer in Costa Rica. The sense of community appreciation and development, both within the local and Guelph community were truly amazing. I also benefited from such a program by participating in volunteer work. We tend to live busy and hectic lives based centered on our needs, and taking time to help others was a grounding experience. More particularly, I have always been aware of the issues regarding AIDS in Africa, but never had the opportunity to participate in a program that would allow me to become more involved. I hope by participating in this program, I can help educate others in Botswana, but also become more knowledgeable of the issues and bring this home to share with others in Canada. Hopefully my experiences can help motivate others to take action.             Â
